This navigation tour will take you to the Los Pingüinos Natural Monument on Isla Magdalena, home to one of the largest colonies of Magellanic Penguins in the region. ⚓ Departure and Austral Navigation Our tour begins at 06:30 AM with pick-up from downtown Punta Arenas (José Nogueira #1255). Transportation will take us to the pier at Bahía Laredo, where we will board the vessel to head towards Isla Magdalena, strategically located in the Strait of Magellan. Panoramic Views: During the approximately two-hour navigation, we will enjoy views of the rural coastline, fishing coves, and glimpse the silhouette of Tierra del Fuego Island. Marine Life and Birds: We will be accompanied by austral wildlife, including the majestic Black-browed Albatross, Cormorants, and Skúas. If we are lucky, we may spot Austral Dolphins jumping and playing near the boat. 🐧 Isla Magdalena: The Penguin Kingdom Upon docking at the island, we will encounter a spectacular landscape populated by over 120,000 Magellanic Penguins, along with other species such as Austral Gulls, Magellanic Plover, Kelp Geese, and occasionally, sea lions. The Trail: We will walk the designated trails that lead from the coast to the highest point, observing these birds and their nests up close. Life Cycle: The colony arrives on the island in mid-October for their breeding and nesting cycle, migrating back north in mid-March. Lighthouse and Viewpoint: The Environmental Interpretation Center and Lighthouse are located on the highest part of the island.
