Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers Navigation: Journey through Ultima Esperanza Sound
Visiting this corner of Patagonia means entering a majestic place, almost untouched by man, accessible only by sea through the Ultima Esperanza Sound. This excursion takes you into the heart of Bernardo O'Higgins National Park, part of the imposing Andes mountain range.
🌊 The Journey: Fjords and Wildlife
The delight begins at the Puerto Natales pier. As the ship cuts through the waters, we will witness a changing and vibrant landscape:
Patagonian Flora: We will sail past native forests of Coigües, Cinnamon trees, Lengas, Ñires, Chilcos, and Calafates adorning the coastlines.
Marine Wildlife: Keep your camera ready to spot colonies of sea lions, and birds such as cormorants, steamer ducks (patos quetru), condors soaring over the peaks, and austral gulls.
❄️ Encounter with the Ice Giants
The voyage culminates upon reaching Mount Balmaceda (2,035 meters / 6,676 ft), home to two impressive glaciers:
Balmaceda Glacier: Viewed from the boat, it is famous for large chunks of ice calving dramatically into the fjord waters.
Serrano Glacier: Located on the northern face. Here, we will disembark for a gentle hike through a native forest to reach the base of the glacier and its lagoon formed by meltwater, offering an unmatched panoramic view.
An unmissable experience to connect with the untamed nature of Patagonia!
